Starbrother

In commission by the Amsterdamse Poort we created a concept to fill up their empty spaces. 

The concept was to create a mascotte, a friend who pops-up all around the Poort. A big friend. 

We selected two artists, Georgy Dendoe from the Sumibu Collective & Ryan Hawaii. 

Two friends with a heritage in the Bijlmer and together they worked on a design. 

Starbrother 110-X was born. A 4m high friend inspired by the rich mix of cultures, people, languages and ideas form the Bijlmer. 

Taking inspiration from Gundam Tobots from the far east, Starbrother 110-X is built from everything that makes metropolitan hubs such special places. 

As without immigration and the freedom of movement, many of these places would be devoid of culture. 

With start being a consistent motif across several flags of the diaspora and the neighbourhood postal codes being 1103-1107, Starbrother combines all of these into a giant friend, guardian & brother. Watching out & protecting the Poort and its’ residents.
